New Apple iPad mini TV Commercial For Christmas Highlights Festive Cheer Over FaceTime [VIDEO]

I think we all understand the emotive human desire to spend the holiday season with our loved ones and the people that are closest to us but unfortunately it isn’t always possible to share the festive season in person with those who matter most. Apple’s latest iPad and iPad mini TV ad that has just surfaced today shows that the company not only understands that we can’t always connect in person with the important people but that the 9.7 and 7.9-inch tablets make great digital companions that can act as a gateway to the people we love through the FaceTime protocols.

The latest TV commercial has been given the "I’ll Be Home" title and features a smiling young girl singing her favorite Christmas song to her grandpa with the help of a rather tuneful song. The cute girl is shown using a full-sized fourth-generation iPad to capture her dramatic activities with the grandpa sitting in the comfort of his own home preferring to accept the FaceTime conversation through the relatively new iPad mini hardware. Regardless of the hardware, the ad has been created to invoke an emotional reaction in us as we can all relate to having absent loved ones at this time of year.

The new commercial lasts for a mere thirty-seconds and features no interruptions or additional Apple products being pushed to the viewer. Nor does it contain any third-party application advertising or any voice over or commentary. The Apple tradition of featuring a simple white background with real people and letting the product speak for itself has been conformed to once again and this ad is nothing more than thirty-seconds of good old holiday cheer. Granted, it has been created to help sell iPads during the holiday season but I love its simplicity and it makes me want to buy another iPad for a family member so it obviously works.
Although Apple’s FaceTime technology is nothing new, it does seem to fit in perfectly with their approach of showing products like the iPad, iPod touch and iPhone to be hardware that allows family and loved ones to connect. The recent power of Apple’s advertising has been in their ability to get an emotional reaction out of consumers and that seems to have been achieved yet again with this latest ad.

Recently I had a shocking experience with my iPad and thought I should share it with you and how I was able to navigate through the situation to find a solution.

I was making use of it. Infact I had installed an app on it and was testing it. Then the iPad went off suddenly. It wasn't a battery problem because the battery was just 50% and the batteries of iPad's don't depreciate that fast.

I plugged it all night and thought it was a battery problem. The Apple iPad did not turn on.

I pressed the on/off button, the iPad didn't turn on.

I pressed the home button it still didn't turn on.

I connected it to iTunes and it wasn't even seen.


What to do when your iPad does not turn on:

1. Make sure that it is charged or has enough energy to come on. Hold down the on/off switch for about 10 seconds. If it doesn't respond, move to the next step
2. Connect it to iTunes software on your laptop (If it is still not recognized then proceed to the third step) 
3. Hold down both the home button (the circle button infront) and the on/off button (on the top). Hold them together for about 10 to 15 seconds and release when you see the apple logo.

Your iPad should work fine from here.

I have some free iPad games on my Apple iPad 3G and I have decided to share the downloads links with you. Whether at home, travelling or just to challenge your friends, you will surely have some fun with these free games for your Apple iPad.

Below is the screenshot of my GAMES folder on my Apple iPad 64gb:

1. Words With Friends FREE

If you love the popular "Scrabble" game and want something similar to it, which you can play for free on your iPad, then download the "Words With Friends" game.

The word building game is my favourite game. I love it so much because apart from been able to pass and play with a friend, it also integrates easily with Facebook, allowing me to play with Facebook friends who also have "Words With Friends" on their Apple or Android device.

"Words HD" is the paid version of "Words With Friends", WITHOUT ads.

2. Ludo HD

The Ludo HD a classic board game for iPad. It supports multiplayer and you can also play with the computer.

The rule is simple: Roll a six on the dice to get out of the castle, move your pieces along, hit others and return to home base.

3. SCRABBLE Free

I stumbled on the "Words With Friends" game before this "Scrabble" game and as at the time of publishing this, I still prefer the "Words With Friends".

4. Angry Birds HD Free

Angry Birds HD Free features challenging physics-based demolition gameplay, and lots of replay value. The 15 levels, set in 5 mini episodes, have been created

specifically for Angry Birds HD Free. Each of the levels requires logic, skill, and brute force to crush the enemy.



5. Mazda MX-5
If you are a fan of racing games, you can download the Mazda MX-5 game from the App Store for FREE.

The race leads players through eight different scenarios across four regions: Country Cruise (country road), Ocean Motion (steep coast), Desert Ride (desert) and Mountain Thrill (mountains), to the appropriate background music from Mazda & Street Hi-Fi.

Playing games on the iPad is one of the things I love doing whenever I don't feel like blogging and chatting on Facebook. The Apple iPad battery is strong enough for you not to worry about the battery when playing games on it. I have loads of games on my iPad, some of which I shared with you when I published "Free iPad Games You Can Download From Apple Appstore". Today, am sharing with you the download links to the Free iPad scrabble games.

My favorite is Words With Friends for iPad

One of the reasons why I so much love my iPad is the ease with which it allows me to download and read pdf files even when am in bed. If you own an Apple iPad but don't know how you can download pdf ebooks from the internet (via emails or websites) directly to your iPad, this tutorial is for you.

I will assume you have the pdf file you want to download in your email inbox or you have the download link of the pdf file handy.


How To Get Started

If you want to download the pdf file directly from a URL, follow the steps below:

==> Download Goodreader app for iPad (Not FREE). I purchased the app with my Zenith Visa Prepaid Card.

==> If you have the direct download link of the pdf file, COPY the url.

Don't know how to copy url on an iPad? Just use your finger to hold on to the url till you see the "copy" option. Then, tap it

==> After copying the direct download link of the pdf file, launch the Goodreader app and tap the "Enter URL" as seen in the picture below:

==> Paste the copied URL in the box. (Touch and hold your finger on the iPad screen and tap "paste"). The box might even be pre-filled with the copied URL.

==> Tap the "OK" button and you will see the pdf listed in the "Downloads in progress" section.

Alternatively, you can use the "browse the web" to browse the website where you want to download your PDF file from.

==> Once it downloads completely, simply tap it to open the pdf file.

You can always access your pdf file anytime you want via the GoodReader app, though the app has an "Open in..." feature which you can use to access the pdf file via iBooks or Adobe Reader for iPad.

If you want to download the pdf file via your email inbox, follow the steps below:

==> Open the email containing the attached pdf file via your iPad's Mail app and tap the attachment to download it. Your iPad will open the PDF in a preview screen, where you can read it in the native software.

==> Tap the "Send to" button in the upper right corner and choose from the installed apps on your iPad that are compatible with PDFs e.g Adobe Reader for iPad. You can always view the pdf file via the PDF or eBook reader app.

If you do not want to purchase the Goodreader app, you can download the pdf file to a PC and follow the steps in this article which explains how to transfer PDF files to iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch via iTunes.

Note: You can view pdf files on iPad using Adobe Reader for iPad and iBooks.

Recently, I shared a post on how to Share Glo internet subscriptions with other Glo SIMs without networking. This new innovation from Globacom Nigeria now makes it possible for me to browse the internet on my iPad using the internet bundle I use to browse on my laptop without having to subscribe to a separate internet bundle on the Apple iPad 3G.

Before Glo introduced the new feature via their Glo HSIPortal, I normally subscribe to at least Always Min( N5,000 for 3Gigs) on my laptop and Always Macro (N3.000 for 1Gig) on my iPad. This means I pay N8,000 to get 4Gigs on my laptop and iPad.

Now that Glo allows me to share my internet bundle, I now subscribe to Always Max (N7,500 for 6Gigs) with my Glo NetPro modem and share the bundle with the phone number of the Glo micro SIM card in my Apple iPad. Imagine, saving N500 and getting 2Gigs extra. Makes sense..huh?

This innovation from Glo Mobile is really fantastic because my laptop does not need to be switched on and I don't need to stay close to the laptop before I can browse on my iPad. I can be at the office and browse on the iPad while the laptop is at home. You know, this will not be possible if you are using WiFi to share the internet connection between your laptop and your Apple iPad.

Syncing Google contacts to my Apple iPad allows me to keep contacts in my Google account in sync with my iPad. If I add new contacts at www.google.com/contacts, the phone numbers and names automatically appear in the "Contacts" app of my iPad 3G. Today, I am sharing with you, the new way to sync your Google contacts with the iOS contacts app using CardDAV.

CardDAV - an open protocol for contacts, was announced by Google in a blog post in September 2012. To sync your Google contacts with your Apple iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Google now recommends using CardDAV instead of Microsoft Exchange. When you sync your Google contacts using CardDAV, you’ll be able to edit, add, and remove contacts from your iPad and keep them in sync everywhere you use them.

So, How Do I Sync my Google Contacts on iOS using CardDAV

You will need an active GMail account. The Google contacts service is attached to every GMail account.  So, let's get started.

==> Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPad to open the "Settings" application.

==> Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
==> Select Add Account...
==> Select Other
==> Select Add CardDAV Account
==> Fill out your account information in the following fields:

• Server: Enter "google.com"
• User Name: Enter your full Gmail address or Google Apps email address.
• Password: Your Gmail or Google Apps password. (If you’ve enabled 2 Step verification, you’ll need to generate and enter an application specific password.)
• Description: Enter a description of the account (e.g. Personal Contacts).

==> Select Next at the top of your screen.
==> Make sure that the "Contacts" option is turned to ON.

After you've completed setup, open the "Contacts" app on your iPad, and syncing will automatically begin. Within few minutes, you should see your Google contacts automatically appearing on your iPad.


If you have any problems, please try these things first:

1. Open the CardDAV account you established at Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars under Accounts. Make sure that the Account option is turned to ON.
2. If the Account is ON, then open Advanced Settings below and make sure Use SSL is turned to ON.
3. If you have changed anything, please click Done and the top right of the screen showing your account settings to save those changes.
4. If you’re still experiencing issues syncing your contacts using CardDAV, please login to your Google account on the web. You might be prompted to acknowledge an “Unusual sign-in location”

NOTES

==> Syncing via CardDAV is only available over SSL for Apple devices on iOS version 5.0 and above.

• If you see an SSL error, thereby failing to verify your credentials while following the steps above, do not SAVE. Try re-adding your Google account all over again and it will work.

Syncing Google contacts to my Apple iPad allows me to keep contacts in my Google account in sync with my iPad. If I add new contacts at www.google.com/contacts, the phone numbers and names automatically appear in the "Contacts" app of my iPad 3G. Today, I am sharing with you, the new way to sync your Google contacts with the iOS contacts app using CardDAV.

CardDAV - an open protocol for contacts, was announced by Google in a blog post in September 2012. To sync your Google contacts with your Apple iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Google now recommends using CardDAV instead of Microsoft Exchange. When you sync your Google contacts using CardDAV, you’ll be able to edit, add, and remove contacts from your iPad and keep them in sync everywhere you use them.

So, How Do I Sync my Google Contacts on iOS using CardDAV

You will need an active GMail account. The Google contacts service is attached to every GMail account.  So, let's get started.

==> Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPad to open the "Settings" application.

==> Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
==> Select Add Account...
==> Select Other
==> Select Add CardDAV Account
==> Fill out your account information in the following fields:

• Server: Enter "google.com"
• User Name: Enter your full Gmail address or Google Apps email address.
• Password: Your Gmail or Google Apps password. (If you’ve enabled 2 Step verification, you’ll need to generate and enter an application specific password.)
• Description: Enter a description of the account (e.g. Personal Contacts).

==> Select Next at the top of your screen.
==> Make sure that the "Contacts" option is turned to ON.

After you've completed setup, open the "Contacts" app on your iPad, and syncing will automatically begin. Within few minutes, you should see your Google contacts automatically appearing on your iPad.


If you have any problems, please try these things first:

1. Open the CardDAV account you established at Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars under Accounts. Make sure that the Account option is turned to ON.
2. If the Account is ON, then open Advanced Settings below and make sure Use SSL is turned to ON.
3. If you have changed anything, please click Done and the top right of the screen showing your account settings to save those changes.
4. If you’re still experiencing issues syncing your contacts using CardDAV, please login to your Google account on the web. You might be prompted to acknowledge an “Unusual sign-in location”

NOTES

==> Syncing via CardDAV is only available over SSL for Apple devices on iOS version 5.0 and above.

• If you see an SSL error, thereby failing to verify your credentials while following the steps above, do not SAVE. Try re-adding your Google account all over again and it will work.
